Faculty Hiring

The process for submitting faculty hire forms differ by type of appointment and whether the professor is a new or existing Columbian College faculty member.


Types of Appointment

 

Full-Time:

  • Ranks range from Assistant Professor to full Professor

  • Can be a contract hire (typically 3 years), tenure track or tenure

Visiting and Regular Part-Time (RPT):

  • Hired to teach for a fiscal year or academic year

  • Assumes some administrative and advising duties

  • Length of contract is typically two years

  • Re-appointments must be approved by the Dean

Temporary Part-Time (TPT):         

  • Instructors are hired by semester to teach one or more courses

  • A hire form must be submitted for every course and every semester they teach

  • Allowed to teach up to 3 courses per year; additional courses must be approved by the Dean

  • Part of Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA)

$0 Appointment:

  • Hired to meet unique need(s) of a department or program

 


Process for New vs. Re-appointment Hire Form Submission

 

New

  1. Complete a manual, or paper, hire form 
  2. Attach all supporting documentation (CV, data sheet, email or letter with the Dean's approval if special circumstance or exception)
  3. Obtain Department Chair's signature
  4. Submit to Michele Tyner for processing
 

Re-Appointments

  1. Complete an electronic hire form through the "Faculty Hire Application" system
  2. Note any special agreements on the form and forward Michele Tyner an email or letter with the Dean's approval of the special circumstance or exception
  3. Submit the electronic hire form
